The question:
Do you need more speed?
Getting into some things that require big file transfers?
Have had some emails that take 15 minutes to download?

  The Answer:

  56k from 1USA:
Good throughput - probably faster than any other ISP.
$18.95/mo plus
discounts for longer terms. Details here.

  112k from 1USA:
$34.95/mo
Details here.
The computer connects to 1USA using two phone lines and two different LoginID's.
Works great for "working from home" to login to your office; just twice the speed you normally get.

  56k with MegaSpeed:
$21.95/mo.
Details here.
When you click to view a web page, or when you click to retrieve emails, your request goes straight through to the Server, as normal. The REPLY from the server is routed through a Proxy Server that compresses the data. For instance, if you visit a web page that is 80k, then the 40k of text is compressed down to 8k, and the graphics on the page (the other 40k) is compressed down to 20k. Your modem needs to retrieve only 28k of data; not the original 80k. This makes web pages appear between 3 to 5 times faster.
This only works well on newer faster Pentium-4 or Pentium-5 computers that can read the compressed data and display it on the screen quickly. If you're using an older Pentium-3 computer, it will still work - but not as fast as if your computer is a P-4 or P-5. The slowness is not in the modem, but rather in the speed that it takes the computer to render the display.
MegaSpeed may or may not work well if you're logging into your Office Network from home - depending on the type of data that needs to be compressed. Try it and see if it works in your situation. If not, then goto 112k from 1USA above.

  DSL from 1USA:
$59 to $99 per month. Apply here.
1USA can sign you up for DSL in most areas.
The bandwidth is approx 256k receive and 40k transmit.

If Verizon owns the "last mile" into your building, then you need to have them as your "local" phone company and receive your phone bills from them. The company that owns the "last mile" is classified as the LEC - Local Exchange Carrier or ILEC - Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier.
If you chose another company for your "local" phone service, then call them for DSL.
Companies like MCI offer "local service" but their service is via their "virtual network" -- classified as CLEC which means Competitive Local Exchange Carrier.

DSL uses the copper wire coming into your building. 1USA is your Tech Support provider on every question except questions about the connection. If you experience problems keeping a connection, you will need to call Verizon.

  CableModem Service:
If you are in an area serviced, 1USA can sign you up for Comcast Cablemodem service.
The bandwidth is approx 600k receive and approx 40 kbps transmit
You can retain your @1usa.com email address, access to the Members Area, etc.
The only thing that gets replaced is: your dialup connection gets replaced with a cablemodem connection.
Cost: $60 per year + your cablemodem bill, which will probably be around $55/mo for residential or $99/mo for business; maybe more.

  1-Way Satellite Service:
For residential or business. Speeds: 500k receive; 200k transmit.
$55/mo for continental USA; $65.00mo other areas.
Details here.
This is where you buy a 1USA Satellite Dish and put it on the roof, or some other location where you have a clear shot to the SatMex5 satellite located in the SSW sky, about 30 degrees up from the horizon. If you have trees or buildings in the south-southwest side of your location, then you do not have a clear shot to the satellite.
You will need a Compass to determine the true direction. Once you feel it may work, request a LookAngle calculation. If you think it will work, then order the Satellite Dish Kit.

  2-Way Satellite Service:
For businesses only. $3,500.00 install + $119.00 per month for 512k receive and 256k transmit.
Very solid, works great. We have various companies in various states using this; we also have the US Coast Guard using it all over Florida and the Caribbean Islands. Uses the AMC6 satellite. Details here.

2-Way Wireless Internet Service - for greater Reading, PA area only.
If you can see the radio towers atop Mt. Penn, then this is another alternative for you.
Speeds: 1.3 megabytes per second on the Receive side; 512k per second on the Transmit side.
$189.00/mo and up.
Details here.
