Domain Management

What is a domain name?

A domain name is the essence of your online identity. It is the address your customers use to find information about your products and services on the web.
Domain names allow Internet users to type in a name, such as
yourdomain.com, to identify a numeric Internet Protocol (IP) address such as 207.15.12.173. The purpose of domain names is to allow users connected to the Internet the ability to find web sites without having to memorize the long, numerical (IP) addresses that actually locate the computers or servers on the Internet. It works the same as a Phone Book. You lookup a name to find the number.

What are the fees to register a domain name?

The 1USA pricing structure starts at a flat $14.95 per year. The price includes all fees associated with registering your domain name including internic fees and parking fees.  If you register your domain for two years, it is only $29.90. This is less than 50% of the other national registrars.

Why are your fees so low?

1USA offers wholesale domain prices. Our commitment to low prices reflects both volume savings, as well as the efficiency of our leading-edge automated technology. We pride ourselves on providing competitive prices as well as superior customer service with ALL of the services that 1USA offers.

What does it mean to "register" a domain name?

There is a central registry of all domain names on the Internet. For your domain name to become a part of the registry, your domain name needs to be added to that registry. "Registering" a domain name means you are associated with that domain name for the period of the registration.

Who should register a domain name?

Business: Anyone thinking about establishing a presence on the Internet should register a domain name.
Personal: Imagine that your email address is JohnLSmith@JohnLSmith.Com   No more Yayhoo, no more Hotmail accounts getting filled up with spams. No more changing your email address when you change over to 1USA as your ISP.
You don't have to utilize it right away, but you can reserve it for your future use. Domains are being registered at the rate of more than 300,000 per month- they go quickly!

How long does the registration process take?

The application process should take only a few minutes to complete. All registrations take place in real time. Once your application has been processed and approved, your name is registered.

Is it possible for someone to register my domain name after I have registered it?

The availability of .Com, .Net, .Org, .Biz and .Info domain names is verified through a central registry system. This system prevents a domain name that is successfully registered from being registered by another person or entity. Our registration and processing system updates the central registry in real time

What methods of payment is accepted?

All major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.

If a domain name is already registered, can I find out who owns the name?

Yes. If you check the availability of a domain name and it is already registered, click on the box: "Show Registrant Information". This will display the contact information associated with a registered domain name.

I've got my domain name, now what?

There are many things you can do with your new domain. Some people want to build a website for their corporate or personal use. If that is the case, you must contact a web design/ hosting company like 1USA. Once we have a website ready for you, we can "point" your new domain to that website.

Domain Forwarding:
If you already have a domain name and want two or more domain names to point to the same page, we can forward your domain name to the website space of your choice. Most Domain Registrars charge for this service.

Email Forwarding:
If you want to forward email to another site or email address, that can be done too. Most Email Forwarding services charge for this service.

Some just want to resell their domain name. In that case, you may certainly sell your new domain to whomever you like. Simply contact us to transfer the domain name to your buyer.

I own a new domain, but when I type it into my browser, nothing comes up.

A domain name is not the same thing as Web Space. If you want your new domain to be a web address for a website for your corporate or personal use,
- you need to create web pages and upload them via FTP protocol to a Host Server.
- you can use our Online Website Builder at
WWW.1USA.Biz
- you can hire a web design company to create "custom" web pages for you. 1USA works with many Web Design firms.
Contact 1USA for advice.

Once a website is ready for you, we can "point" your new domain to that website.
If you already have a website somewhere OTHER than 1USA, and you are now registering a new domain name for it, be aware that some hosting companies do not accept a domain pointing to their host site (members.abigisp.com/your-abigisp-site~template1765, for example)
Once an acceptable server is assigned, it will take a few days for the routing to point to your new host.

What is a DNS?

DNS (Domain Name System) is a system that translates a domain name from letters (www.1USA.com) into a numerical IP address  (199.190.65.3). This works just like an automated phone book!!

Each time you register a domain name you must specify your DNS information. If you register a domain name through 1USA, you can use 1USA's DNS information... free of charge! This is known in the industry as "parking" a domain. You can also change the DNS information at any time... also free of charge, but be aware, your new DNS host may charge you a parking fee.

Why would I need to change my DNS information?

If you already have a web site or an email account that you want 1USA to host, 1USA will ask you to change your DNS information (we would become the new DNS host) so that your domain name can be connected to your web site and your email account can be setup.

How do I change the DNS information for my Domain Name?

If you are changing DNS information on a domain name you registered with 1USA, begin by clicking the "Manage Domain" link above.  You will be asked for the username and password you designated at the time you set up your domain account. If you have forgotten your username and password, you can have it emailed to the email address you have on account. If you no longer accept email at the same email address used to register your domain, you're out of luck.

If you would like to change DNS information on a domain name you registered with a registrar
other than 1USA, contact that domain's registrar. It is the NEW registrar's responsibility to ensure that your website works.
If you are MOVING your DNS or your website
to 1USA for hosting, we will take care of all the details.

How long does it take for DNS changes to take effect?

Typically, the DNS changes will be completed within 24 to 72 hours. This is standard Internet propagation time. The central registry databases update automatically.
