  • DSL Service

There are many differences between the Verizon DSL service
    and the
    1USA MegaSpeed DSL service.

    Verizon

    1USA

    Provides copper connection Yes Yes.
1USA can deliver MegaSpeed DSL-class service to any qualifying circuit in 610-215-302 area codes.
Routes the connection into DSL Equipment (D-Slam box) Yes Yes
Provides Bandwidth - Backbone out to the internet No
Verizon subs out to GlobalCrossing or Qwest
Yes.  The packets that you send & receive are routed over our OC-3 Backbone.
    Protocol used PPP-Over-Ethernet
Verizon uses the PPPoE protocol, which is Point-to-Point-Over-Ethernet. Sometimes they run special sales on their PPPoE Modem. This is still only PPP over Ethernet - not the best protocol to use for high-speed connections.
    Ethernet-Over-ATM
offers near-HardDrive speeds -- typically 10 times faster than Verizon's PPP protocol.
    Speed Guarantee No
Verizon cannot promise a speed. They say "connect at your own speed ". Both
GlobalCrossing and Quest can become saturated & over-sold, resulting in slow "residential class" Downlink speeds.
The definition of "High Speed" and "Broadband" mean any connection that's 256k or faster. Expect a 256k connection.
    Yes
This is controlled by the distance of the D-Slam equipment to your residence.
If your street address is within 8,000 ft of your Verizon Central Office, you may be eligible for 3 megabytes per second vs the 1.54 megabytes per second. This will show up when your address is qualified for service.
A 1.5 mb pipe will yield downloads of 450k per second - if the website you're downloading from can deliver that fast.

You will see download speeds between 40k per second and 450k per second, depending on the website that you're downloading from.
Many websites cannot deliver as fast as your 1USA connection will be.
Uplink speed The Uplink side (transmitting) is limited to the 25k to 45k range. Our OC-3 fiber-optic trunk lines are designed for business-class service.

The "uplink" pipe on the uplink side is limited to 256k, 512k, 1.5 mb... depending on your Agreement, which can always be increased or decreased depending on your need.
    Much better/faster for Gamers.
    Reliability Verizon's Reliability.
If there is a problem with the copper connection in your wiring, the speed will be slower than normal.
If there is a problem with the quality of the copper wiring from the Central Office... to the pole... and into your residence, the same Verizon technician will show up to check the circuit.
IP Address Dynamically assigned from a pool.
When the Verizon service connects, your IP address is dynamically assigned from a pool of IP addresses.
On 1USA, you receive a Static IP address to go along with the Ethernet-class speeds using the Ethernet-over-ATM protocol, because it's faster than Verizon's PPP protocol.
How many computers supported? Designed for ONE computer. Additional computers are "not supported". On 1USA, you can have as many computers as you need.
While there is s difference between Residential support and Business support, the 1USA connection is expandable to whatever you need.
Network Protection No network protection at all.
Verizon does not provide a Firewall box or other levels of protection. They provide only the connection part of the service.
    Yes
    1. The OC-3 backbone prevents hacker & virus packets.
    2. We pre-program your DSL Router to block hacker & virus packets.
    3. 1USA requires its DSL & Comcast customers to get a ($69.00) D-Link Firewall box.  The newer Routers have a built-in Firewall.
    Computer
    Protection
    No. None at all.
They sell you McAfee Antivirus software.  Another $49.  Ca-Ching!
    Yes! This is 1USA's specialty!
We have lots of good software to keep your computer safe, now that it will be "always on".
    Professional Installation No.
Verizon provides a "Self-Install" kit that they mail to you.
If you can't figure it out or can't get your service functional, they bill you anyway.
No refunds for unused service because they don't have any way of tracking if you used it or not.
    Yes.
    1. We pre-program the router to protect your computer.
    2. A professional installer will visit and install the Router and setup your computer. It will be fully functional.

If you are switching from Verizon's DSL to 1USA DSL, you will immediately see a speed increase!
Tech Support For the connection only.
Whenever you call Verizon Tech Support, their DSL support is in Toronto, wait 30 minutes on hold, finally talk to a person who uses a script. If you ask a question that's not on the script, good luck.
If there is ever a problem, we speak English!!!!!
1USA has exclusive extra levels of support to help keep your computer clean.
Local Phone Company Your local phone service must be with Verizon. This is what they're really after. They make so much money being your phone company and your Long Distance Provider that they almost give away the DSL service as a carrot.
It's hard for 1USA to compete against this predatory pricing practice, however we DO compete -- and exceed their service levels.
With 1USA's DSL service, you don't need to have Verizon as your local phone company. You can use any "Competitive Local Exchange Carrier" that you want; such as D&E or CTSI who generally offer 20% Discounts. Again, if there is a copper phone line problem, they would have a Verizon technician come out to check the lines - because Verizon owns the "last mile" in the territory.
Price Verizon DSL started out at $49.95/mo and are now selling as low as $29.95/mo (predatory pricing) -- however, add taxes & federal fees, will bring it up to around $37.00.

Taxes & hidden charges are extra. Final pricing unknown until you receive your phone bill.

Also budget $75 to $100 per hour to a computer repair shop to remove the viruses & trojans all the time. And currently, there are more than 1,500 hacked computers on Verizon and Comcast -- where hackers got in and use the computer to send out Spams late at night. Don't forget this is an "always-on" connection.
    Residential 1USA DSL is
    $29.95 per month
    No additional taxes
    No additional charges!!!!!!

Your 1USA Agreement shows the true complete price for the DSL connection. No hidden charges.

The 1USA Broadband-Plus service has email service, tech support, newsletters, loads of useful software, access to the Membera Area, etc.

If you don't think this is a good deal, I know where there is a bridge for sale. : )
    Plus-Account No Plus accounts offered.

After you have factored in all the additional Security costs there would be on a Verizon connection, if you end-up choosing Verizon for your DSL connection in spite of the minimal price difference, you can still choose 1USA as your ISP.
You can keep your 1USA email accounts, tech support & newsletters for $6.95/mo or discounted to $69/yr if paid once a year.
Considering that Computer Shop Repairs cost $85 per hour and up, this is a really good deal.

In short, comparing Verizon DSL vs 1USA DSL is like comparing a Yugo with a Corvette!
