Once or twice a month (not too often) a 1USA customer (with a 1USA.Com email account) calls in saying
that they could not receive an email from someone out there in La-La Land.
While I don't think it's much... I would still like to address the situation so that everyone understands the situation...
Upon investigation of these incidents, we find that:
- 1. the person sending the email is using Email.Com, Lycos.Com, or one of those
'free' email services that are normally blocked by good ISPs because those services have a big Spammer problem.
The person should subscribe to a good email service instead
of a 'free' one.
- 2. the person is using an ISP that was bought-out by a larger company, and the
new owner incorrectly maps the old email accounts to new servers without
- 3. the person sending the email is at a company where the mail server is not setup
correctly. (It is important for a mail server to have its Forward Zones and Reverse Zones setup corectly in their
DNS Server)
To investigate a situation, have that person Forward the Error Email to us at
We will take the time to find out the true situation.
If the other person cannot fix their problem, there are alternatives:
- a. We can "specifically allow" emails from their <discombooberated>
mail server - as long as it's not from one of those known Spammer sites.
- b. If this happens a LOT for you, we can move your email account from @1usa.com
over to @1usa.net
In a perfect world, the best Mailserver will allow emails in from your friends, while blocking emails from spammers.
In a perfect world, your 1USA Mailbox would only contain emails from people you know -- without all those Viagra
or Mortgage advertisements.
Some of those "spams" have a misleading subject line of "How Are You?" and when you click to
read the message, it turns out to be another advertisement!
Also... one person's Junk Mail is another person's Pleasure.
... and we all know that a mailbox filled with 25 spams per day is pretty much useless.
It is a hard job to distinguish the
good emails from the others.
So... how do we set up a MailServer
that allows the CUSTOMER to control what is acceptable and what is not?
We did that. It's called ASKMail and it's running on the 1USA.Net mail server. [info...]
To determine whom your friends are, you either maintain a "whitelist" or the sender will receive a Confirmation
back to them the first time they try to email you.
To skip the Confirmation step, you pre-load your Whitelist with the email addresses of your friends.
