  • Having multiple email accounts on 1USA

Procedure to request additional Email Accounts:
To request additional email accounts, simply email the Webmaster with the Account Names and Passwords that you'd like.
If available, they'll be confirmed to you.

Write down the Email Account Names and Passwords on paper.
Hang a yellow stickie note on the side of the video monitor, or on the back of an envelope taped to the bottom of your keyboard.

There is no charge for a few needed email accounts for different people,
however there is a charge for one person to have more than a few "vanity" accounts,
because each one receives virus protection and tech support services.

    Having an Alias account
An alias is simply a 2nd name for your primary account. You will be able to receive emails at both email addresses, but when you send emails, they will go out using your primary email address.

Things to consider when setting up additional Email accounts
Once you decide what level of privacy you want between the email accounts, you then need to decide HOW you want to manage multiple email accounts to work.

Microsoft Windows works best when ONE computer has ONE operator.
In Windows XP, multiple people can have their own Windows Logon Profile. Each Windows Profile can have its own email address using Outlook or Outlook Express software.

To determine which setup is best for your situation:

    1. Does the person have their own computer?
This is easy. That computer gets a separate email address, which can be setup in Outlook or Outlook Express software.

    2. Is more than one person using the same computer? Do those other people have their own Windows Profile?
Do you Log On to Windows when you sit down at the computer?
If so, then LogOn to the computer using profile #2 before entering the new account info into that profile's Outlook Express.
For Help, click on Start > Help > and type in "user accounts" in the search box.

    3. If more than one person is logging onto the computer using the same Windows Profile, but you want incoming emails to be in a separate In-Box & outgoing emails in a separate Sent Items folder, then open Outlook Express and click on File > New Profile and setup a new profile, then enter the account info into the Outlook Express Profile (vs the Windows Profile described in #2 above).
When switching between accounts in Outlook Express, you will need to switch from the Master Profile to the Other account's profile.

    4. If you want all the emails to come in to the same In-Box and copies of all sent emails in the same Sent Items folder as your Master account, then setup the new account under your current email identity in Outlook Express.
There is no switching between accounts, and sending & receiving is simple, however emails from BOTH accounts will be intermingled in the same In-Box.
To send an email using the new identity, click to Compose an email as normal, then pull down the From Line of the new email window and choose the alternate email identity.

    Notes:

    Outlook or Outlook Express:
    - Outlook can do only one email account at a time.
    - Outlook Express can do multiple email accounts at a time.
    - Easy to use once the accounts are setup correctly.
    - Emails are copied or moved from the 1USA Mail Servers onto your computer. If your computer crashes, you will lose all emails and your Address Book unless you make periodic Backups.

    Using Webmail
Instead of setting up the account in Outlook or Outlook Express software, you can choose to simply use the Webmail service at http://home.1usa.com/webmail/ however emails will last only 60 days on the server. There is no permanent storage facility.

    Webmail:
    - easy to use
    - All emails are on the 1USA Mail Server, not on your computer,
    - Can be accessed from any computer in the world.
When you goto http://home.1usa.com/webmail/ the first time, save it as a Favorite.

Procedure to setup the new Email Address
Using the Microsoft-provided New Account Wizard walkthrough:

To setup this account in Outlook Express, here is the instruction.
Do not change your current email account or otherwise mess it up....

To create a new account in Outlook Express you would click on Tools > Accounts >
then click on the New button and follow the prompts.
When finished with the prompts, click on the Edit button to edit the new account, and make sure that there is a check in the checkbox for "My server requires authentication" on the Servers tab.

Here is a web page of what the new account should look like:

    Notes from the Q&A Forums:
    -----Original Message-----
    Question:
I would like to discontinue my AOL service where my wife and daughter have email addresses. I read that with 1USA I can establish multiple email addresses too.
I can't find the area that describes how to do this function.
Is this something I can establish using Outlook Express or do you recommend another method?
I also read read any additional email accounts not used will be erased. Is thus true?

    Answer:
On AOL, you have Screen Names. If you have 3 screen names, there is some privacy between the different accounts. However,
all screen names are tied to your Charge Card Number, which is how hackers were able to steal 21,000 AOL Charge card numbers last November.

Because 1USA learns from the problems of other ISPs, 1USA doesn't keep the charge card numbers anywhere near the internet computers.
On 1USA, your Logon ID is your "master account".
1USA Subscribers receive one Master Account to use for connection purposes, which comes with its own 'master account' email address.

Additional email addresses are available - as many as you need.
Email accounts not used will be removed 6 months after the last login date.

    Netscape:
If you choose to insert more than one Email Address into Netscape, you can't.
It only takes 1 per Netscape Identity.
If you choose to insert all of them into Microsoft's Outlook Express in the same Identity, ALL incoming email is deposited into the
same "In Box" - there is no privacy, so there really is no usefulness to have multiple email accounts.
The newer IE 5.5 and IE 6.0 have Profiles. If you set up each email account under a different profile, then you have privacy between the accounts.

    Here is our recommendation:
If you inserted only the Master account into Outlook Express, and let the other people access their emails via the Web Interface at
http://home.1usa.com/webmail/ then there would be privacy between the accounts.
If not used at least once every 6 months, the WebMail accounts will expire 6 months from the last login. We classify these as 2ndEmail accounts.

While you could have those secondary email accounts on Yahoo, HotMail, Juno, etc., you should know that the sole purpose of those "free" email services is to spew forth advertising to you, for which they get paid usually 5 cents per delivered email.

(1USA has turned down many lucrative offers.... turning down *cold hard cash*.... in order to provide our customers a "nice, secure place" to hang their hats. We're hoping that our great reputation of being an honest ISP service will provide more rewarding benefits than being paid to prostitute the service like so many other Services have chosen to do.)

    Also, these other accounts
may not have Anti-Virus Protection like 1USA has. You better make sure that your anti-virus software is up-to-date if you choose any of these 3rd party email services.
The most recent virus attacks infected thousands of people on the first day.
1USA's anti-virus protection is updated Daily. Is yours?
We pride in stopping these viruses and providing this extra level of protection to our 1USA Subscribers.

    What are customers saying...

... thank you again. It is heartening to find good customer service, ...I commend you for your patience and willingness to help, and I appreciate the fact that you didn't "talk down" to a non-techie.
