Setting up Netscape for Email on 1USA.Com

Setting up Netscape with your Email address is fairly simple and painless. All you need to do is follow the instructions listed below.

The settings below WILL NOT WORK unless you're a 1USA Monthly Subscriber.

Place the downloaded Compressed Exe file into your Temporary directory or your Downloads directory. We recommend C:\Temp or C:\Downloads.
Double-click on the My Computer icon, then double-click on your C: drive icon. (Windows 3.1 users run File Manager) If you don't see either of these folders, you can make a new folder by clicking on File > New > Folder then type in the folder name.

Starting out

First of all, you need to have Netscape Running.
Under Options menu, select Mail & News Preferences.
A gray window will open.
Click on Appearance tab and click on the following radio buttons:
variable width font
text style: italic
text size: smaller
Use Netscape for Mail and News

Click on COMPOSITION tab and click on the following radio buttons:
Mime-compliant (quoted printable)
BarryZ on 1USA leaves the four text boxes empty; don't need to file copies of outgoing messages.
Click on "automatically quote original message when replying"

Click on SERVERS tab and fill in the following information:
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: HOME.1USA.COM
Incoming Mail (POP) Server: HOME.1USA.COM
POP User Name: (Your email address) without the @1USA.COM behind it.
Mail Directory: Leave default
Maximum message size: none
Messages are copied from the server to the local disk then "Left on the Server" or "Deleted from Server" depending if you want a backup should you inadvertently delete a message that you needed. (It Happens to all of us!)

If you select "Left On Server" and use 1USA's powerful Worldgroup Email software, you can retrieve 2nd copies of ALL incoming email for the last 45 days should you inadvertently delete an important message.

You can change the settings to Check for mail every X minutes or never; select NEVER. This way you get your new email when you click on the 'get new email' button. Should you set this to automatically get new mail from the server, never set it for less than 30 minutes, you'll make our System Administrator here very mad if you do.

News:
News (NNTP) Server: 199.190.65.4
News RC Directory: let to default path
Get "500" messages at a time.
Note: If you use Win_VN News Reader software, you can access All 45,000 newsgroups whenever you want to. You don't NEED to "subscribe" to a newsgroup, which copies all messages to your in-box and fills up your Email mailbox.

Click on IDENTITY tab and fill in the following blocks:
Your Name: Real name i.e. John Smith or whatever name you want to appear in the "From" field.
Your Email: your internet email address. i.e. UserID@1usa.com
Reply-to address: your internet email address. i.e. UserID@1usa.com
Your organization: can be left blank, or insert your company name, or insert 1USA.COM
Your signature file: You don't need to fill this in unless you place orders via credit card over the internet and the various Secure Servers require a signature file.

Click on ORGANIZATION tab and click on the following radio buttons:
Remember Mail Password
Thread News messages
Sort mail by Date, subject or sender
Sort news by Date, subject or sender.

If your Netscape email preferences are different than above, then 'wing it'.

Now you're finished!
