Updating your Web Browser software

Setting your Video Resolution

Updating your Web Browser software

It is important to use a current version of web browser software, whichever brand of software you are using.
1USA recommends Avant browser because it is very stable and it's fast.

Here is what you have installed now:

If your browser is an older version of Internet Explorer, such as version 5.0 or 5.01, you will especially want to update because that older version is when Microsoft didn't implement the correct version of Java, which causes problems when viewing web pages.
To update Internet Explorer, goto

Setting your Video Resolution

We've found that a screen width of 1024 pixels and height of 768 pixels is about the best for surfing the internet and an "all around" resolution.

Most websites design their layouts to take advantage of the larger 1024 x 768 screen area -- because a 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 screen area is too confining to web page designers.

On the other hand, a resolution of 1280 x 1024 makes pictures appear too small.
Older web pages that are designed for 640 x 480 become too small to read.

You can change the Font Size easily!
Click on the View menu > Text Size > and adjust the text size to your liking.

To change your video resolution:
View your Desktop - by minimizing all open windows.

You minimize a window by clicking on the Underline in the top-right corner...

Now that you see your Desktop (picture below),
Right-click on an empty area on the screen.
A gray menu will appear.
Left-click on Properties

This will open the Display control panel.

Next, click on the Settings tab.

Change the Desktop Area to 1024x768 by sliding the Slider Bar to the right.

While you are here, you might as well make sure that the Color Palette is set for 64,000 colors (also called Hi-Color).
Setting it for Full Color is overkill. Also,
your computer will run slower when set to Full Color mode.

Click on Apply.
The video card will now test to see if the video card can handle this size. If so, click on Apply.
If not, it will automatically revert to the previous setting.
If you're not fast enough during the test, you need to do it again.
