Robert Lilarose: Yeh for Gov. Tom Ridge! |

|
Bill Hulsizer: It says "knowingly". Legally, I'd say that's the same as
"intentional", meaning the average person has absolutely nothing to worry about, anti-virus software
or not. |

If a person catches a virus and sends an email out, and the recipient informs the
sender that they recieved a virus in the last email, the sender is then obligated to stop sending emails until
the situation is investigated. The LoveBug virus has the potential of infecting a LOT of computers every day. If
one virus is transmitted, and the recipient's comptuter sends out to the first 50 friends in the Address Book,
and those 50 also send out to another 50 in the address book, how many computers are infected?
The main problem is that people THINK that their installed anti-virus protection is working.... but it's not -
because they didn't go download the updates recently. |
Jeanne Dries: Thanks for the info. In my next life I'm going to have more memory installed. |

Fantazm21: Totally cool. Send me more information on these kinds of things when you get it please. I've stopped
attempts by internet hackers to send me the I LOVE YOU WORM and the BLACK ORIFICE TROJAN VIRUS. It makes me angry
they can do that and nothing happens to them. All I can say is Thank God for my firewalls and anti-hack protection
systems I have on my computer. I appreciate the Update. |

Although it is beyond the scope of the discussion here, many people have no idea
where to start when they're interested in adding this type of protection onto their computers. 1USA has all kinds
of neat ideas at http://home.1usa.com/forums/ , but access is limited to 1USA subscribers; either Dialup subscribers or DSL subscribers. |

Why am I receiving your news ?? i'm not a subscriber to 1usa and i do not wish to receive your news so please
remove my email address from your mailing list. |

Hey Brian, it's Pennsylvania's news, not mine. Are you saying that the ISP that
you work for doesn't care what affects the customers, or just yourself? |
UCanChew says: I totally agree with this law and hope it serves notice to hackers beware.
My question is: How is it that the PA law can cover jurisdiction over the internet? State government doesn't have
the power or the funds to try and prosecute anyone transmitting a virus, especially if they are from another country
or even a different state. |
| |
Same rules apply as if the person was charged for Credit Card Fraud, bouncing bad
checks, stealing from your employer, a bank robber or any other "criminal" activity.
Here's how it works: Somebody transmits a virus into PA. The receipient
gets it certified by the investigators that the virus came from XXX@Yahoo.com, who lives in Texas.
Data files from the computer, and data files & evidence from Yahoo prove the case.
A warrant for arrest is issued, and the person is extradited to PA awaiting a Hearing. If the judge sees fit for
a trial, the offender is provided with a Trial date. Punishment can be in a State Prison for up to 7 years. |
Gloria Klombers: That's good. Besides, it's practical. |

Glen Roberts says: Yeah.... but most of the virus spreading is by people who haven't
a clue! Microsoft needs a virtual environment that email attachments run in, so no matter how bad they are, it
won't affect anything. How many people actually INTENTIONALLY send out viruses? It's another LAW that attempts
to solve a problem when the REAL answer lies in technology. |
| |
Yes, most viruses are from computers that don't have any virus protection software.
Just as a car with bad tires - if you slide through a red light and cause an accident; guess who is responsible!!
About technology: Email was originally designed as Plain Text, then Microsoft started encouraging the use of HTML
in emails. HTML is the same programming code as web pages.... and we all know what web pages can do.... run JavaScript
programs and even collect personal data! The LOVEBUG virus is actually a small JavaScript program.
The BEST THING that a person can do to help eliminate the possibility of
catching or re-transmitting a virus is to disable Microsoft's default email sending format of HTML, and change
it to Plain Text.
Open Outlook Express
Tools > Options
Click on the Send Tab.
Click on Plain Text.
- it's that easy. |
Trish Doll: Thanks for the GOOD info. |

John Myers, Jr. says:
This is a great service. Please keep it coming, BUT - Please increase your
social and scientific awareness of what a hacker is, and what the oppressive
big brother side of all this new internet law. Remember, politicians are
not trying to help us, - They are provenly ONLY ever trying to consolidate
power, get votes and make more money. WE are never the reason, and NEVER
have been. Hacking used to be wonderful and helpful thing. The media
glamourized the negative side and now it has become a bad thing. A hacker
is one who searches for the limits of any system and tries to exceed them.
This is a great process whereby man made it too the moon, invented tanks,
guns, warships and polio vaccine. To kill this spirit is THE GOAL NUMBER
ONE of any police state. And don't fool yourselves, the USA is only steps
away from that.
Thankyou. |

The best hackers opened up their own Computer Security businesses in order to protect
the innocent. Many people need help - especially those who use DSL or other full-time connection....

Remove my name from your e-mail listing. I do not want your junk filling up my computer. If you continue I'll
